Meet Squeak – Carpenter, Certificate IV student with BAA
Background
Those who say there isn’t art in construction haven’t met Cameron “Squeak” Freeman, a current student studying his Certificate IV in Building and Construction with BAA. Although a carpenter by trade, Squeak isn’t just a one trick pony. He’s also a swinging crane operator, a rigger, a truck driver, and has his confined space roads access. As a third generation builder, Squeak has always “had a love for building.”
It’d be fair to say that Squeak’s interests are not your average Joe’s.
“It’s the ridiculous custom stuff that I really like to build. It makes you really think about the performance solution. Everything is a one off, completely custom, you find yourself asking ‘How the hell do we do this?’”
Studying the Certificate IV in Building and Construction with BAA
It’s this flare of creativity that drove him to seek out the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) with Builders Academy.
“My main motivation is to get certified so I can begin to build my own big structures. The certificate will definitely allow me to take the next step in getting some of those big structures off the ground.”
Just like on the site, Squeak continues to excel within the classroom as well.
“I’m loving it, I’ve got 3 of my assessments tasks in already. Despite originally having to wrap my head around the idea of going back to school and learning doctrine, I’ve found the classes have been really easy to get stuck into.”
Along with his desire to continue to seek out artistic style builds, Squeak highlighted the camaraderie that exists at BAA and a shared passion to excel within the field.
“My mate who I’ve done some builds with before is at Builders Academy as well. He’s already a licensed builder and I suppose he’s going for his Engineering Degree. So we’re kind of both stepping up together.”
Reasons For Joining BAA
With aspirations as big as his personality, BAA seemed like a natural progression for Squeak.
“It’s definitely worth it. The Cert IV is going to mean a lot for my career progression. It definitely gives you an edge on the site. Anyone who has got a Cert IV will just come up trumps.”
