Why enter the building and construction industry?

Excellent job prospects? Solid salaries? Meaningful work? If you’re hoping for a challenging and varied career, working in the building and construction industry ticks all the right boxes.

In Australia – and across the world – the industry is in a boom. In fact, over 42,000 new homes are built in Victoria alone each year. As long as new residential and commercial developments are being built, there will always be a need for people with the right qualifications and ambitions.

There are so many different paths you can go down, too. You might kickstart your career in the building and construction industry as a carpenter and work your way towards becoming a construction manager. Or, you might start your own small business, working on your terms and with your own team – it’s up to you.

Whatever area you choose, you’ll find the industry to be constantly evolving. And with the right direction and qualifications under your belt, you’d be surprised at how many options you have to carve out an exciting career in the building and construction industry.

Getting started

Whether you’re ready to switch up jobs, or fresh out of school and looking for direction, your journey has to begin somewhere – a building and construction course online is a great place to begin.

For many, this means picking a trade and starting an apprenticeship. For example, our CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry (Carpenters) is a solid place to start. Combining on-the-job experience with theoretical learning, this apprenticeship gives you a solid base from which to build your career.

After completing an apprenticeship, you’ll become a qualified tradesperson. In many ways, this is just the beginning, and from here, your options really start to open up.
