Wage Subsidy Extended for Apprentices and Trainees

Heard the good news yet? The Australian government has extended its apprentice wage subsidy stimulus until 30 June 2022. This apprentice wage subsidy extension will seek to upskill more apprentices and reward employers for hiring them.

Apprentice wage subsidy extended

Businesses that hire a new Australian apprentice or trainee get a 50% wage subsidy.

This news came along with the federal budget, in which the Australian government is spending $365.5 million to support an extra 35,000 apprentices and trainees. The scheme is called the ‘Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements & Completing Apprenticeship Commencements.’

The wage subsidies pay for up to a maximum of $7,000 per quarter and will continue to be available until 30 June, 2022. This means there is still time to take advantage of the benefits!

These subsidies are available across all industries, but they will particularly benefit the building and construction sector.

This stimulus comes on top of existing spending designed to keep employees and apprentices in jobs.
